Update 15/3/18: Due to the possibility of a cyclone developing in the region this weekend, the Tiwi Islands Grand Final and Annual Art Sale has been postponed until the following Sunday, 25th March. 

All ferry services scheduled to the Tiwi Islands this Sunday the 18th have been cancelled. For those with bookings for this Sunday, we will be contacting you this afternoon to discuss your options. 

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused however safety of passengers and the Tiwi community is our primary consideration.

The renowned Tiwi Islands Football Grand Final & Art Sale is on again this March, with footy fans and art goers making the pilgrimage from all over Australia to experience this must-do event! 

Join SeaLink NT for a great day on the Tiwi's; visit the museum and historic Catholic mission precinct, follow the art trail and purchase discounted wares from Tiwi art centres Jilimara, Munupi and Tiwi Design.  Cool down in the shade under the SeaLink pavilion, enjoy a lunch of gourmet burgers with salads and of course catch the famously contested Tiwi Islands Grand Final!

Tour Details

Depart Cullen Bay on either the 6:00am or 8:00am departures for the 2.5 hour trip to Wurrumiyanga on the Tiwi Islands. The annual art sale commences from 9am, with art centres from Melville Island also bringing their wares for sale at various locations. The Tiwi Art Trail includes Tiwi Design, Jilamara Arts, Munupi Arts and Ngaruwanajirri – art trail maps will be available on board. 

Visit the Patakijiyali Museum and learn about traditional Tiwi culture, the Catholic mission of the 20th century, Tiwi involvement in WWII and the many famous Tiwi athletes. Check out the historic church and see the statue of Matthias Ullungura, the Tiwi man who captured the first Japanese prisoner of war on Australian soil in 1942.

Walk to the oval from 12:30pm for a lunch of gourmet footy burger and salads, soft drinks and water available all afternoon in the pavilion. Tiwi Islands Grand Final kicks off at around 2.30pm. After the footy, make your way back to the beach to board the ferry for the cruise back to Darwin, arriving at approximately 8:00pm.

Depart Cullen Bay ferry terminal at 6:00am on board the MV Tiwi Mantawi. Arriving at Bathurst Island at 8:30am, you will have plenty of time to visit the various art centres for the Annual Art Sale, the museum and historic precinct and also see some of the curtain raiser football games.

Departure from Bathurst Island is after the Grand Final, arriving at Cullen Bay at approximately 8:00pm
