Depart Cullen Bay for a relaxed 2½ hour cruise to the Tiwi Islands to explore the progressive town of Wurrumiyanga on Bathurst Island. Famous for art and culture, along with their genuine welcome (the meaning of ‘awana’), you’ll be greeted with a traditional totem dance and a smoking ceremony at the Tiwi Design Art Centre.
From here, you’ll have time to appreciate the artists in residence, peruse the art galleries and buy a souvenir or two. Pop in to visit the ladies at Bima Wear for textile arts before finding a shady spot for your picnic lunch.
Once rested, use your ticket for the Patakijiyali museum to learn about Tiwi dreamtime, World War II participation and their love of the AFL. Stop by the historic mission precinct before your ferry trip back to Darwin.
