Locals say that football is a religion on the Tiwi Islands and we suspect they may be right. From a population of just 2500, there are eight teams in the Tiwi Island Football League. The best of the best play for the Tiwi Bombers Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League, and many Tiwi Island champion players have gone on to play in the AFL.
The entire community participates in the footy, especially for the Island of Origin game on Australia Day (Bathurst Island v Melville Island), and of course the famous Tiwi Island Grand Final held in March each year.
Come up and meet the Tiwis, visit the art centres and the museum and see a great game of footy on Tiwi soil.
SeaLink runs special services for the NTFL games on the Tiwi Islands in October and November each year.
**MATCH CANCELLED DUE TO WET WEATHER**
